Feature - AJ the Purple

Name: AJ Kosarek

Shop Name: AJ the Purple

Brief Product Description: My main product are huggles – little knit creatures with big ears and bigger hearts! But I like doing a variety of crafts! You'll find different knit accessories, drawings, and embroideries as well.

What is unique about your product? Huggles are all unique, and there's something for everyone. They have a lot of personality for little monsters!

How did you get started? About the time I learned how to knit, I came across Etsy by accident. I signed up and listed a few pieces of art, but as I started making huggles, I realized they would be perfect!

Where do you get your inspiration? Inspiration for me comes from all over, but mainly from happiness. When I feel happy, or see nice things in the world, creative juices start flowing. I feel especially inspired by parks, my husband, and art museums.

What excites you most about your work/shop? I get to create! And I looove making such cute things ^_^

Describe your workspace/workroom. Right now I work out of our one-bedroom apartment. In a way it's nice, because I can set up wherever I feel like that day :-)

Which do you prefer: online sales/marketing or face-to-face sales/marketing? Why? I'm pretty shy about selling myself, so I like having the ability to sell and market online, but I also really like meeting people face-to-face! I think a mixture is good :-)

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? In Hawaii? ;) Eventually I'd really like to have my own shop. In 5 years, I'd like to at least be selling online full-time, and frequently setting up at markets.

What do you feel is the most important skill you use in your business every day? Determination. If I weren't determined, I probably would have quit a long time ago. It really takes daily work, be it creating, marketing, or selling, to get anywhere!

What do you like about EtsyAustin? It's great to be able to get together with real people who are doing what I do. I love having people I can talk with about the nitty-gritty of Etsy and crafting.

What do you think makes EtsyAustin Street Team unique? The people! It's a great group of crafters who are amazingly nice and helpful.

Describe something about yourself that may be a surprise to people on the team. I'm a sci-fi geek.

Renegade Craft Fair - Austin

Right now, at least a dozen EtsyAustin team members are gearing up and getting ready for this coming weekend's huge and highly anticipated Renegade Craft Fair.

The Renegade Craft Fair is a large-scale Do-It-Yourself event featuring hundreds of independent artists and their unique handmade items. RCF is held in cities across the US every year - including Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles & now Austin! The fair is known for being one of the first events of its kind, and for having top-notch indie-craft artists and designers who travel from all over the map to participate.

The fairs are juried, so that only the best arts and crafts are available. At RCF you’ll find all sorts of cool handmade stuff including clothing, housewares, posters and prints, plush items, ceramics, jewelry, stationery, and more. The fairs also feature choice local eateries, marching bands, entertainers, DJ’s, raffles, workshops, photobooths, and other festivities!

This FREE TO ATTEND craft, art, design, and DIY spectacular will run May 15 & 16, from 11am – 7pm each day, and will be held at the Palmer Events Center! Get a sneak-peek of who will be setting up shop at this year’s Austin event on the Artist Page!

The Palmer Events Center is located at 900 Barton Springs Road and offers low-cost parking in their garage adjacent to the building!

This event is huge and you won't want to miss it! See you there!
