Name: Britt Kilpatrick
Shop Name: Bright-eyed Birdie
Brief Product Description: Jewelry and Paper Goodies
What is unique about your product? My imagination puts a twist on the ordinary.
How did you get started? I’ve been doing art for a long time but I didn’t decide to take it seriously until I moved to Austin last November.
Where do you get your inspiration? Through everything! A flower from my backyard, something funny I see on TV, the rust spot on an old truck, or things I find on the side of the road.
What excites you most about your work/shop? The endless possibilities. I find that the pool for creating is bottomless.
Describe your workspace/workroom. It is incredible! I use an old vintage kitchen cabinet/shelf that I found on the side of the road as my work desk. I use the pull out cutting board for paper instead of vegetables! It’s located under my window so I can look outside as I work and the lighting is perfect.
Which do you prefer: online sales/marketing or face-to-face sales/marketing? Why? I enjoy face-to-face sales. I really like seeing people’s reaction to my work. If somebody really loves what they purchase it always gives me a little tinge of pride.
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? I would love to get the guts up to sell my wares at craft shows. I definitely lack confidence when it comes to selling my goods.
What do you feel is the most important skill you use in your business every day? Imagination and a steady hand.
What do you like about EtsyAustin? Seeing successful artists who love to create just as much as I do is inspiring, I like that.
What do you think makes EtsyAustin Street Team unique? I haven’t joined any other street teams but I would imagine what makes EtsyAustin unique are its members. The desire to have fun while learning new skills, traits, and crafts all while enjoy each other’s company doing it!
Describe something about yourself that may be a surprise to people on the team. About a year and a half ago my husband, two friends and I drove one auto rickshaw from the bottom of India to the top in a matter of 2 weeks. It sounded like a good idea at the time…
